Lesson Plan: A Good Day for Money
Description: In this lesson for grades K-2, students listen to a short story introducing them to Penny and Nicholas, the “Money Kids.” Students discuss ways people receive money. They are introduced to work skills (human capital) and the relationship between people’s ability to earn income and the education and training they have.
Activities: During this lesson, students will interact in group discussions, create “Message Pockets” for transferring information from classroom to home, explore work skills, and create an “Income Chain” of income earned and gift money.
Objectives: At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
- Relate human capital to work
- Define money earned as income
- Differentiate between money received as income and money received as gifts
