“I love the Econ Book Club! It’s allowed me to get a better understanding of economics through easy-to-read books that have real-world applications, which in turn is helping me teach my students.”
Sherry Cashwell
Parkway Summit Middle School, Columbia

Are you looking for a new angle to use to reach your students? The First Citizens Econ Book Club might be the answer. If you are a Midlands area high school teacher of economics, or any teacher interested in that subject, SCCEE, the Columbia College Center for Economic Education, and First Citizens Bank invite you to join the book club.

The Econ Book Club meets twice a semester for dinner table discussions on topics “that make the world go around.” Past discussions have ranged from the growing economic dominance of China to the mystery of why capitalism succeeds in the West and fails elsewhere. Each meeting is guaranteed to be provocative and give you some new ideas to think about and to share with your class.

How Does It Work?
All teachers and anyone else interested in economics are invited to attend the Econ Book Club meetings. The club meets in the Breed Leadership Center on the campus of Columbia College. An RSVP is required the day before because dinner is provided. To learn when the next meeting will be held, click on the Econ Book Club Meetings link on the left. And, to learn more about how the Econ Book Club influenced teacher Sherry Cashwell and her students, click here.

If You Can’t Make the Meeting
If you live too far away to make the Econ Book Club meetings, you can still read the book selections. Click the Reading List link to find out what books have been discussed at past meetings.
