Why is this called Hootie & the Blowfish Take Stock in South Carolina?

Hootie & the Blowfish started playing at frat parties and local bars at the University of South Carolina in the late 1980s. By the mid ‘90s, Cracked Rear View sold 16 million copies, and the band became an international sensation.

Never losing touch with their home state, the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation was created in 2000 as a way for the band to give back to the community. Through the Foundation, the band invests proceeds from their annual Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament, as well as the many other fund raisers in which they participate.

The South Carolina Council on Economic Education is a proud recipient of the band’s generosity. SCCEE received a generous grant from the Hootie Foundation to advance economic education in our state. In return, the Council named Take Stock in South Carolina after the band as a way to thank them for the good work they do for South Carolina’s youth.
