Economic Concepts Calendar
The South Carolina Council on Economic Education, in cooperation
with the Charlotte Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of
Richmond and the Moore School of Business at the University
of South Carolina,
produces an annual calendar showcasing elementary and middle-school
students' economic knowledge and artistic creativity. The
contest was created as a way for students
have fun
with economics while reviewing economic concepts and principles
in the South Carolina Social Studies Standards.
Students are asked to illustrate one of the following economic
concepts in a poster:
•Scarcity
•Opportunity Cost
•Productive Resources
•Goods and Services
•Producers and Consumers
•Specialization and Interdependence
Sixteen illustrations were selected for publication in the
calendar. Each winner received a $50 U.S. savings bond which
was presented at the Council’s annual awards banquet
in April 2005.
